What's new?

ÞWe've gotten a lot of calls from gardeners concerned that their crape myrtles are dead.  Crape myrtles are slow to wake, especially during a cold spring.  It's likely that they are still dormant and will be growing soon. You can scrape your thumbnail gently against the trunk and you'll probably see green -- life!

ÞGranular Plankskydd is back in stock -- this season's must-have rabbit repellant.

In the nursery now

This season we have the best selection of hard-to-find shrubs you'll find anywhere:

Hydrangea Forever and Ever 'Peppermint'

Ladies and gentlemen, the drought is over! Yahoo! We actually had winter this year with precipitation -- snow and now rain, rain, rain. Can't complain!  The weather I can ponder as I consider what 2008 will bring to my garden.

The first work I did on a warm day in March was to prune my shrub roses and my one climber.  For me, this is  a three step process:  first I remove the dead branches; second, I remove any branches that are growing toward the center of the plant, ( a rarity); third, I remove any branches rubbing against one another (the weaker branch gets the ax). For the climber, also shorten the laterals.

Special announcement

Chloe has retired!  The World's Cutest Dog is now hanging out at home with special dog friends Fen ("Fenny") and Koda.  She will be making occasional special guest appearances at the nursery, but for now, is enjoying the peace and quiet of retirement.
