HEDERA helix ‘Henrietta’, Henrietta Ivy:  Vibrant white variegation splashes across the dense foliage of this superior ivy.  The effect is like it was splashed with high-gloss white paint.   Excellent for topiary work or as a groundcover to bright up a shady area.  Part sun to shade.

 

HEDYSARUM coronarium, French Honeysuckle.  Dense erect spikes of fragrant deep red flowers over shiny foliage.  Grows to 30”.  Butterflies love it!  Sun.

 

HELENIUM, Helen’s Flower, Sneezeweed:  Sun.  Long blooming plants.  Pinch back until May 15 to encourage branching.  All varieties are heavy flower produces.  Flower heads are up to 2” wide.  Excellent cut flower.  Not particular about soil.  Powdered disk flowers and leaves of this species have in the past been dried and used as snuff, thus giving rise to the common name of sneezeweed.

flexuosum.  Multitudes of delightful brown spherical cones are surrounded by a flowing fringe of bright yellow petals looking like hundreds of yellow-skirted dancers in motion atop a compact busy plant.  Tough native tolerant of a wide variety of conditions  Blooms in summer.  18-24”.

flexuosum ‘Tiny Dancer’.  Delightful brown spherical cones surrounded by a flowering fringe of bright yellow reflexed petals looking like hundreds of yellow-skirted dancers in motion atop a compact, bushy plant.  Tolerant of a wide variety of conditions.  Blooms from mid to late summer.  Grow in full sun.  Attracts butterflies.  Floriferous and low growing native. 

‘Ruby Tuesday’:  An abundance of delightful ruby-red flowers on strong stems top dwarf, 2’ plants. 

 

HELIANTHEMUM, Sun Rose:  sun; blooms in spring; woody plants with rose-like flowers; good for rock gardens; evergreen; needs good drainage; drought tolerant, long blooming.

nummularia ‘Fire Dragon’.  Set off by a foil of silver-green foliage, the vivid orange-scarlet flowers blaze with intensity.  Blooms May through July.  Compact, reaching 8 inches tall, and mounds to 18 inches wide.  Easy to grow in full sun in well drained soil, happy in rock gardens.

nummularia. ‘Henfield Brilliant’.  Bright orange flowers in early summer over grey-green foliage.

 

HELIANTHUS, Perennial Dahlia:  sun/part shade; plants become a solid mass of color in fall; good cut flower.

multiflorus ‘Capenoch Star’.  The most handsome of perennial sunflowers.  Clean deep green leaves give way to large, single, bright yellow flowers that are reminiscent of annual sunflowers with their wide centers.  Grow in full sun to part shade.  Grows 5 to 6 feet tall.

multiflorus ‘Flore Pleno’.  Much loved classic with double 3-5” double flowers.  Resembles a Dahlia.  Blooms fall a long time in summer and fall.  3-5’.  Likes sun or partial shade.

salicifolius ‘First Light’:  Chosen as a ‘Plant of Merit’  by the Missouri Botanical Gardens for its out-standing qualities.  Large, yellow daisies in summer and fall atop unique small foliage.  4’.

s. ‘Low Down’:  As outrageously floriferous as the above, but much shorter.  Dark yellow flowers.  12”.

‘Table Mountain’.  A true dwarf perennial sunflower.  Very upright, compact plants with true green, lance shaped leaves.  Yellow flowers cover the tops of the stems all late season long.  Incredibly easy to grow.  Compact, reaching 16 inches tall and wide.  Grow in full sun in average to well drained soil.

 

HELIOPSIS, False Sunflower/ Snowflower:  sun/part shade; blooms mid-summer into fall; drought tolerant; good cut flower; draws butterflies.

helianthoides ‘Prairie Sunset’:  from June until late fall, this native selection’s hot daisies, yellow with red centers shine among dark purplish green foliage.  Stems are rich burgundy.  Grows to 5’ but bows gracefully to 4’.

helianthoides var. scabra 'Summer Sun':  A beautiful, carefree perennial with 3” bright, double golden flowers.  Singled out by the Missouri Botanical Gardens as a ‘Plant of Merit’ for its outstanding qualities.  Grows to 30”.

Loraine Sunshine’:  Exotic variegated foliage is white with green veins.  Leaves turn somewhat greener late in season.  Generous production of large golden-yellow daisies, June until frost.  30”.

‘Bressingham Doubloon’.  Large semi-double golden flowers on strong stems for most of the summer.  48”.

 

HELLEBORUS, Hellebore:  shade/partial shade; blooms late winter to early spring; excellent groundcover.

 

foetidus, Bear’s Foot:  18”; strong stems hung with small clusters of 1” yellow, bell-shaped flowers accompanies by light green oval bracts.  Fanned arrangements of narrow fingered foliage.  Flowers are light-green with maroon-tinted edges.

 

niger, Christmas Rose:  12"; white flowers in late winter, early spring; the large flowers have golden stamens and remain decorative for weeks, turning pink or greenish; over the years.  Dark, evergreen, leathery foliage.  The plant can become a large, profusely flowering clump. 

niger ‘Josef Lemper’.  A superior variety.  A striking, winter-early spring flowering plant with beautiful flowers of white petals set around a spring-green center, bursting with yellow-tipped stamens.  Foliage is rich, deep green. 

niger ‘praecox’.  Showy saucer-shaped white flowers in early spring.  12-18”.

x nigercors.  Exciting new hybrid with huge 2 1/2” white flowers,  with a blue green tinge, are edged in fading red.  Large, robust semi-rigid gray green foliage has jagged edges.  This cross between H. niger and H. argutifolius produces vigorous plants with large flowers  30”

niger macranthus.  Beautiful flowers of pinky-white petals set around a spring-green center, bursting with yellow-tipped stamens.

 

orientalis, Lenten Rose:  10-12"; nodding  flowers of white, cream, pink to purple; dense evergreen; poisonous. Designated a Missouri Botanical Garden ‘Plant of Merit’ for it’s outstanding qualities.  A gardener’s dream plant —permanent, they can live up to 50 years, disease-free, low-maintenance, and vigorous.

o. ‘Allegra’s Rainbow’.  Double flowers of intense colors.  18”.

o. ‘Ashwood Garden Hybrids’.  Slowing spreading plants that blooms in shades of pink, green, yellow, white, apricot, red, blue, and black.

o. ‘Blue Lady’:  Huge 4” deep purplish blue up facing flowers.  20”.

o. ‘Blue Metallica Lady’.  Large, silvery purple-blue flowers.

o. ‘Brandywine’.  , A superior strain boasts beautiful dark reds, spotted pinks, picotees and apricots, along with doubles and anemones.  A keen eye, hand pollination and years of careful selection mean beautiful plants for you.  Grows 12-18”.

o. ‘Double Queen’.  Beautiful double flowers, mixed colors.  Grows 12-15”.

o. ‘Red Lady’.  Large over-lapping red-magenta petals with a deeper center rise above masses of glossy dark, leather-like leaves.   Grows 12-30”.

o. ‘Swirlin Skirts’.  Double white selection with a fill robust habit.  Outer petals are flushed with light  green; heavily ruffled, white inner petals have purple speckles.  Deep green glossy foliage provides winter interest.

o. ‘White Lady Spotted’: White flowers with conspicuous dark-red spots.

o. ‘Yellow Lady’.  Sturdy-stemmed, mostly upturned yellow flowers.  14-18”. 

 

Immanence Collection of Helleborus

Immanence varieties is an exceptional series.  Their bud count is superior to other strains, and flowers are held more erect for a better show than older forms, whose flowers tend to nod.  They are compact, growing 12-16” in height.

‘Courage’ .  Single flowers in shades of red.

‘Double Melody’.  Double flowers in a rainbow of colors

‘Empathy’ .  Single flowers in shades of pink, some with picotee edges.

‘Melody Mix’.  This is a medley seed strain containing  single and double varieties in all sorts of hues, including yellow, blue and green.  Compact, reaching 12 to 16 inches tall and wide.  Blooms late February to mid March.  Grow in full to part shade in moist, well drained soil.  Easy to grow and rabbit resistant.

‘Optimism’.  Single flowers in shades of deep black-red with contrasting yellow centers.

‘Pacific Frost’.  A unique Hellebore with dark green foliage that is heavily frosted (speckled) with white.  Pure ivory blossoms are presented in clusters above rather than below the leaves for a showy springtime display

‘Sympathy’.  Single flowers with pink and red freckles on a pink background.  Compact, reaching 12 to 16 inches tall and wide.  Blooms late February to late March.  Easy to grow in full to part shade in well drained soil.  Deer and rabbit resistant.

 

x ericsmithii ‘Silver Moon’.  Unique cultivar blends the best characteristics of three species.  Silver foliage is attractive even when not topped with lovely white blooms.  Grows to 6 inches tall and wide.

 

HEMEROCALLIS, Daylily:  sun/part shade; blooms times vary.  Long-lived garden plants that need little care.  Heat and drought resistant.  The Stout Medal is the highest award received by daylilies from the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS).  If a bloom last for more than 16 hours it is considered an Extended Bloom.  Tetraploids have twice the chromosomes, which results in large flowers, rich colors and vigorous plants.

‘Always Afternoon’:  Mauve 5 1/2” flowers with narrow buff edges, purple eye-zone and green throat.  Reblooms well.  Winner of the Stout Medal.  One of the most famous daylilies to be offered.  22”.

‘Apricot Sparkles’.  An everblooming dwarf selection with deep apricot, diamond dusted flowers.  A heavy bloomer that starts early and continues until frost.  15”.

 

'Bela Lugosa' .  Considered by many daylily connoisseurs as one of the best purple daylilies available.  Masses of mysterious deep purple blossoms with deep, dark, green throats cover plants over a long period.  Truly outstanding, Bela is a strong grower whose superb flowers don't fade in sun.   

‘Bertie Ferris’.  Ruffled persimmon orange flowers are 2 1/2”.  Grows 20”.

‘Cherry Cheeks’.  A longtime favorite with 6” raspberry-pink shaded flowers with green-yellow throats.  Grows to 28”.  Tetraploid.

 

‘Chicago Arnie’s Choice’.  Violet-purple blooms with a green throat bloom early to mid season.

‘Chicago Orchid’.  Pale orchard ;deep violet; mid season bloomer.

‘Chrystal Pinot’.  A stunning new bi-color with ruffled blossoms of deep purple and light creamy white with a yellow throat.  20-30".  Prolific bloomer.  30”.

‘Cranberry Baby’.  Cranberry-red colored 2 1/2 inch flowers with lemon-green throats. 

Compact, growing only 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide.  This early flowering re-bloomer is perfect for landscaping and mass plantings because of its great show of flowers.

 

‘Daring Deception’.  Heavily ruffled 5” lavender flowers with deep purple edges and eye-zone and contrasting yellow throat.  Reblooming tetraploid.  24”.

‘Daring Dilemma’.  Pale pink flowers are highlighted with Cream and plumb twisted edged and large, showy plum eyezone.  A repeat blooming award winner.  Grows to 24”.

 

‘Ed Brown’.  Distinctive ice pink self with fold ruffled edge.  Early to mid-season bloomer.  REBLOOMS.  Grows 24 inches tall and wide.  Semi-evergreen.  2003 Award winner.

‘Eenie Weenie’:  10”; light yellow with green throat, lightly rippled edges on both petals and sepal; repeat bloomer.

‘Elegant Candy’.  Very fragrant, rounded, ruffled 4 1/2” pink flowers with red eye-zone.  Reblooming tetraploid.  25”.

 

‘Fooled Me’.  Fully 5 1/2 inches wide blooms with a brilliant cinnamon-red eye zone and a slender yellow strip through the center of each petal.  Bloom mid season, each flower opening  the evening before its full day of bloom.  Grows to 2 feet tall and wide.  Winner of numerous awards. 

 

‘Gentle Sheppard’A diploid cultivar that is noted for being one of the best of the flowering daylilies.  5.5 inch flowers of almost pure white with yellow green throats.  Flowers appear on 30” stems early to mid season.  Easy to grow in full sun to part shade.

‘Golden Zebra’ .  Bright yellow flowers over variegated foliage.  Grows 22”. 

 

‘Happy Returns’:  18”; lemon yellow flowers May until frost.  An excellent rebloomer that is considered one of the best.

 

‘Janice Brown’Delicate pink 41/2” flowers with broad deep red eye-zone.  Very floriferous, semi-evergreen plants.  Multiple award winner.  21 inches tall and wide.

‘Jean Swann’.  Very fragrant 6” double peach-cream flowers that rebloom.  32”.

‘Joan Senior’:  25”; closest to white with lime green throat; award winner; repeat bloomer; excellent bud and branch count; blooms June to mid-July.

 

‘Lavender Stardust’.  One of the very best lavender daylilies.  Clear lavender pink, heavily diamond dusted flowers with light pink midribs, a bright yellow halo and fat green throat are produced on heavily budded scapes.  Ruffled, sculpted petals of heavy substance.  Sunfast.  Vigorous grower with outstanding foliage.  Blooms July-August.  Repeat blooms.  AHS Honorable mention in ‘98.

lilioasphodelus.  Lemon Lily.  An old favorite, valued for its early bloom and very fragrant 3 inch, clear lemon yellow flowers.  Grows 24 to 36 inches tall.

‘Little Business’.  3” pink red flowers with green throat.  Repeats.  Grows to 15”.

‘Little Grapette’:  3” purple-grape flowers with contrasting yellow throat.  24”.

‘Little Wine Cups’.  Early 2” wine cherry-.  red with green throat.  Rebloomer.  20”.

‘Longfield’s Twins’.  Large, fragrant, double rust-red flowers that radiate warmth of color as the yellow halo and highlights shine through the petals. Reblooms.

 

‘Mauve-Mini’.  Bright mauve with deep, purple eye.  12-15”.

Mini-Pearl’:  16”; exquisite, lightly ruffled, bluish pink blossom with yellow green throat; a fantastic new miniature that produces a myriad of blooms all summer; exceptionally high bud count.

‘Mini-Stella’:  2” yellow flowers are produced throughout summer.  12-15”.

 

‘Navajo Princess’.  Glorious 4 1/2” pale pink flowers are marked with a lilac eye.  24” repeater. 

 

‘On and On’.  4 1/2” fragrant baby pink flowers repeat on 18” plants.

‘Pandora’s Box’.  Cream flowers with ruffled edges have a cranberry-purple eye and green throat.  Vigorous variety that grows to 24”.

 

‘Pardon Me’:   already renowned as one of, if not, the best red for length of bloom.  Exceptional 3.5” cranberry red blooms with yellow throats.  Prolific bloomer with 35-40 buds. Color does not fade.  A very reliable rebloomer, it stands 22-28” tall.

‘Purple de Oro’:  Just like its famous relative ‘Stella de Oro’ only with purple flowers.  Repeats throughout summer.  18”.

 

‘Rosy Returns’.  EVERBLOOMING rose-pink flowers with darker rose-purple eyezone and vibrant yellow throats, appear constantly from June to frost.  Each flower measures 4” across and possess a delicious fragrance.  Grows 12-16”.

‘Ruby Stella’This ravishing beauty boasts repeat blooms of luscious wine-red flowers that appear from early summer till first frost.   ‘Ruby Stella’ is a proven top perennial performer  with great compact habit. The plant's foliage reaches 14 to 18 inches in height with flower scapes of approximately 22 inches.

‘You Angel You’.  Sweety with 2” double cream flowers with hints of peach and red eye zone.  A repeat bloomer that grows to 16”.

 

HEPATICA, Liverleaf:  shade to partial shade.

americana6”; mixed flowers in spring; evergreen heart-shaped leaves with 3 pointed lobes; shady woodland native for the collector.

transsilvanica ‘Blue Jewel’.  Evergreen mats of basal, leathery, tri-lobed, dark green foliage is topped with deep blue flowers which are larger than the species.  Grows to 8”.  Can be grown in a wide range of conditions, but does especially well in alkaline soil, which should be moist but with good drainage.  Sun or shade.  Good under deciduous trees, in raised beds or in the rock garden.  Can also be grown in containers.

 

HERNIARIA, Green Carpet, Rupturewort:  sun.

glabraAn evergreen creeper with tiny green leaves on trailing stems.  Foliage turns bronze red in winter.  Plants are shallow rooted so need consistent moisture and good soil drainage during the summer months.  Tolerates heavy foot traffic.

g. ‘Sea Foam’.  Fabulous new low ground cover with cream-edged green centered leaves.  Moss-like, extremely soft-textured foliage makes a fin small to moderate scale filler between stepping stones.  Tolerates considerable foot traffic.  Excellent in containers. 

 

HESPERIS, Dame's Rocket:  sun/part shade; blooms late spring into summer.

matronalis12-36"; very fragrant blue to lilac flowers, prolific reseeder.

 

HEUCHERA, Coral Bells:  sun/part shade, blooms May-July; lovely foliage; excellent edger.  Included in this listing are the extraordinary new  villosa hybrids.  These plants love the heat and humidity, and surprisingly, even thrive.  Exciting new colors, metallic sheens, and marbled foliage, along with the myriad of improvements on the flowers are just a few of the outstanding features.

 

‘Amber Waves’:  Nothing like it!  Stunning, ruffled, amber-gold foliage.  Light rose colored flowers.  8" foliage height.  12" scapes.  Part shade.

‘Autumn Bride'.  Fountains of pure white flowers begin in late summer and continue until frost.   Fuzzy lime-green foliage that is nearly evergreen.  Native plant that can take dry or moist shade and a wide variety of conditions.  Good, low maintenance groundcover.  Excellent cut flower.  2' in bloom.

 

‘Beaujolais’.  A villosa hybrid.  An incredibly vigorous, relatively large variety.  Burgundy leaves measure 5in across with a touch of silver and dark purple veins.  Cream flowers emerge from pink buds on very tall scapes in midsummer and attract butterflies and hummingbirds.  Foliage grows to 12in, flowers to 24in.

‘Black Beauty’. Dark glossy, ruffled leaves catch the sun from any direction.  Grows 10 inches tall and 16 inches wide.  Flower scapes reach to 24”.  Blooms white in late spring.  Grow in moist to well drained soil in full sun to part shade.  Deer Resistant.

‘Bronze Wave’.  Another wonderful hybrid of the native that makes an excellent shade groundcover that can happily compete with tree roots.  Huge, 6-8” shiny, almost lacquered deep purple leaves have a beautiful shape with wavy margins.  In Sep. and Oct. the plants delight us with wands of pale pink, foamy flowers. 

‘Brownies’.  Robust plants form a large mound of huge chocolate-green leaves with purple-red undersides.  White flowers appear late in the season.  Grows 10” tall and 20” wide.  Good heat tolerance.

 

‘Can Can’:  26”; very ruffled metallic silver foliage; truly different  from all of the other forms; creates a tight ruffled mound; stunning as it reflects the morning light.  Ooh la la.

‘Caramel’.  Glowing apricot yellow-orange leaves are lobed and fuzzy.  As the summer progresses the leaves turn to soft amber, then transfer to an intense salmon red in fall.  An eastern U.S. native species that is unsurpassed for longevity, and looks good and thrives even in the prolonged heat and humidity.  Wands of white flowers in late summer  Grows 6” tall and 15” wide.

‘Cherries Jubilee’.  Tons of bright cherry red flowers dance above ornamental foliage for months. 

‘Chocolate Ruffles’:  chocolate on top with burgundy on the underside of ruffled leaves.  Strong purple spikes with many small flowers.  Foliage height up to 10”, flower height 30”.  Designated a Missouri Botanical Garden ‘Plant of Merit’ for its outstanding qualities.

‘Chocolate Veil’:  Beautiful smooth chocolate black leaves with purple highlights up to 9” across.  One of the largest leafed Heucheras.

‘Citronelle’.  Bright lime yellow foliage lights up the shade garden.  Robust grower even in the heat and humidity due to its villosa parentage. 

‘Crimson Curls’.  Uniquely curly purple leaves of rich, deep purple.  Compact and long-blooming.  Showy ruffled foliage sets off neighboring plant.  Creamy white airy flowers.

‘Curly Red’. Ruffled and crinkled crimson-red foliage is topped with slender stems of frothy creamy-white flowers in late spring.  Grows 10 to 12 inches tall and wide.  Easy to grow in moist, well drained soil in part sun.

 

‘Dolce Crème Brule’.  Creamy-colored foliage takes on rosy brown sugar highlights.

‘Dolce Key Lime Pie’.  Lively lime green foliage becomes more intense in fall.

‘Dolce Peach Melba’.  Foliage in shades of peachy orange seems to catch fire as the seasons change.

 

‘Earth Angel’.  Unique copper-green leaves have dark purple veining and a green margin.  Spikes of red flowers appear on dark purple stems in late spring and early summer.  Grows 12” tall and 20” wide.

‘Encore’.  New leaves are deep rose-purple with light silvering, darker veins, and vibrant reddish purple undersides.  Mature leaves are rose with a heavy silver overlay and smoky purple veins.  Cream flowers bloom on 18 inch scapes in mid summer.  Reaches 12 inches tall and wide. 

 

‘Fandango’.  This compact, free flowering plant has veiled-metallic ruffled leaves with a swirl of pink wand-type flowers around the short stalks.  Repeat blooming.  Foliage grows to 7 inches, flower stalks rise to 16 inches.  Grow in full sun to part shade in moist well drained soil.

‘Florists’ Choice’.  Exce
