ANGELICA, Angelica: annual; sun/part shade archangelica: 4-6'; tiny white flowers; Italian favorite.
ANISE HYSSOP, Agastache foeniculum: perennial; sun; 36"; lavender-blue flower spikes in summer; licorice-mint fragrance.
ASPARGUS ‘Purple Passion’: A perennial which produces attractive deep purple spears which have a mild, nutty flavor and with 20% more sugar than other asparagus are much sweeter. So tender it can be served raw as a lovely purple garnish on salads. Spears not cut for the table grow into a delicate foliage plant with billowing ferny branches that reach 3-4’. It makes a fabulous backdrop for flowers. Female plants produce vivid red berries. Plant in soil that has been amended with compost and is well drained. Plant the crowns in a shallow trench about 6” deep and cover with 2” of loose soil. After the shoots emerge keep putting soil around them until the trench is level again. Take no cutting the first summer. After they mature you can expect about 6 weeks of fresh, sweet asparagus, year after year. $6.95-1 gal.

Lavenders require full sun and excellent drainage. angustifolia, English Lavender: This group has some of the darkest purple flower color. They make excellent dried flowers and are hardy. ‘Blue Cushion’: 16”; exceptional variety with deep blue flower spikes all summer. a. ‘Buena Vista’: Showy deep lavender flowers with a sweetly fragrant scent. Blooms twice each season. Dries well.
‘Cynthia Johnson’. Hardy Lavender to zone 4. Forms tight clusters of dark blue-purple flowers on slightly taller stems, fragrant gray-green foliage. Blooms late summer. Reaches 18 to 22 inches tall and wide. ‘Coconut Ice’. Stunning bi-color flowers of white and pink. Very dense silvery-green foliage . 'Hidcote': 15-20"; deep violet-blue flowers; silver gray foliage. a. 'Jean Davis': 15"; pale pink flower. 'Munstead': 12"; large lavender flowers; most hardy in our area. a. ‘Twickle Purple’: Fragrant dark bluish-purple flower spikes on long stems that fan out around plant. Great for cut or dried flowers. ‘Violet Intrigue’. Masses of purple wands repeat on and on all summer. Very vigorous variety that has a high oil content and strong fragrance. The long 24” stems are wonderful for cutting. Very hardy.
dentata, French Lavender: These Lavenders produce profuse flowers that are extremely fragrant. Deeply toothed wooly leaves create a richly textured plant. Blooms allsummer. Excellent for topiaries. Tender perennials that make interesting houseplants d. ‘French Green’ and ‘French Gray’: Gray or green foliage; very fragrant. 2-3’. d ‘Variegata’, Variegated French Lavender: gray and white foliage; purple blooms; 3’; tender Lavender from North Africa.
intermiedia ‘Walvera’ Silver Edge Lavender. Variegated soft-looking bushy mound features silver-green leaves with creamy white margins. Dusky blue blooms. Grows to 3’ tall and wide. Full Sun. Zone 5.
stoechas, Spanish Lavender. Unusual and interesting purple tufts of flowers in summer. Excellent container plants. Perennial. s. ‘Anuok’. Dark-violet flower spikes topped with clear purple tufts. Early blooming, may through August. Good winter hardiness (zone 5!) with resistance to night frost. Disease resistant variety. Compact, reaching 8” tall and wide. s. ‘Coco Purple’. Lavender flower spikes topped with pink bracts from early summer through fall on a compact plant with a uniform growth habit. Blooms early summer through fall. Grows two feet tall and wide. Hardy to zone 6. Grow in full sun in well drained soil.
Other Lavender Species and Hybrids multifida ‘French Lace’. T ender, delicate, lacy gray-green foliage. 'Lady': 8-10"; spectacular lavender-blue flowers cover this All American award winner earlier than other lavenders; a tender perennial. ‘Passione’. Large purple flowers with deep pinkish-purple bracts. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. Plant in full sun to part shade in well drained soil. Zone 8. ‘Pinnata’: wooly plant with carrot-like foliage and purple flowers. ‘Sawyers’. Deep blue flowers atop gray foliage with a white down. Grows 24 to 36 inches tall and wide. Plant in full sun to part shade in well drained soil. Zone 6.
Lavadins. Lavadins are hybrids between English Lavenders and L. latifolia. This group tends to bloom in midsummer, are taller plants with longer flower stems and larger flowers. They are excellent for potpourri, oil production, and dried. Lavadins are hardy in zone 5. ‘Grosso’, Fat Spike Lavender: Violet-blue flowers on a vigorous, disease resistant plant. Excellent dried flowers, heavy oil producer. Blooms for a long time. ‘Provence’: Compact pant with light purple flowers on very long stems. Repeat bloomer. 2’.
LAVENDER COTTON, Santolina: sun. chamaecypariss: Underused fantastic little plants. Evergreen silvery foliage is aromatic and deer resistant. Yellow flowers bloom in late summer. Excellent use as a groundcover, reaching 18 to 24 inches tall and wide. Easy to grow in full sun in well drained soil. Zone 7. chamaecyparissus ‘Shades of Jade’. Gray-green fragrant foliage of this sun loving plant creates a sturdy garden accent with yellow flowers. More shrub-like than other santolinas. Grow in full sun in well drained soils. Zone 6. rosmarinifolia: 16”; rosemay leaved; very interesting; shrubby evergreen appearance. virens, Green Santolina. An excellent plant for dry and sunny locations where a ground cover is needed. Bright green foliage with yellow cushion flowers, in July. Foliage is evergreen. Grow in full sun in well drained soil. Hardy to zone 6.
LEMON BALM, Mellisa officinalis: perennial; sun/part shade; 24"; leaves have lemon flavor.
LEMON VERBENA, Aloysia triphylla: perennialtender perennial; sun; 12-24"; non-edible leaves used for flavoring and tea; woody shrub to 5’.
LOVAGE, Levisticum officinale: perennial; sun; 60"; celery flavor; can be used like celery. SWEET MARJORAM, Origanum majorana: annual; sun; white or pink flowers; mild flavor perfect for Italian and Mexican dishes.
MINT, Mentha: perennial; sun/part shade. ‘Applemint’, Mentha suaveolens ‘Variegata’: 18-24"; white edged leaves have an apple scent and fruity flavor. ‘Candy Pops’: Flowers resemble a pink lollipop. Its aroma is unique in that it smells like an herb seasoned butter. Its culinary usage goes on and on. When in bloom this new hybrid will stop all herb gardeners in their tracks. ‘Chocolate’: Mmmm. ROSEMARY HARDY. Rosemarinus officionalis, ‘Madeline Hill’. A HARDY ROSEMARY!!!! Hardy to zone 5. Robust with wedgewood blue flowers. Reaches 3 feet tall and wide. Perfect for the year-round kitchen garden. Grow in full sun, in well drained soil. Shape lightly in spring. Deer and rabbit resistant.
ROSEMARY, Rosmarinum: perennial, not hardy; sun; plant where scent can be enjoyed. officinalis: 2-3’; culinary herb with pale blue flowers. ‘Arp’: hardiest selection of the herb rosemary; forms a loose upright shrub with highly aromatic gray-green leaves; needs well drained soil, but is very drought tolerant. Hardy in Zone 6.
