Native gardening has many benefits.  Plants are easier to grow because they are adapted to our particular climate and tolerate rapid weather changes and cold snaps.  Native prairie plants are excellent choices for sunny sites, tolerating poor soils and requiring little to no fertilization for their establishment and success.
Celandine Poppy, Stylophorum

Woodland natives prefer moist, rich soils, and many of our favorites are spring ephemerals (they will go dormant in the summer), but they colonize well.   A gardener of native plants can have a flourishing flower vase all year long!

Most of all, native plants help preserve our native fauna, often being hosts for food, or habitat sources for animals, insects, and larvae.  You can feel good knowing that your garden is not escaping cultivation in a malignant manner, choking out the native flora in the woods nearby.
