What's new?

Our March hours are 9-5, 7 days a week.

o  We don't have a lot of plant action going on at the moment, but the gift shop is all abuzz.  As always at this time of year, we're looking to clear out last year's inventory, so stop in and check out the gift shop stock that is 50% off.

o  Are you suffering from Knock-Out Rose burnout? Then consider the new re-blooming 'Bloomerang' lilac. It's a compact size at 3'-4' tall and wide and blooms continuously from spring through fall. Syringalicious!

o We're really excited about a new mulch we're carrying this year called Preen Mulch Plus -- just what it sounds like.  Prevent weeds while you lay down mulch -- how easy does that sound??

o  Pre-order your miniature 'Little Annie' coneflowers now for $12.99 and save $4 off the spring price.

Our bare-root special expires Sun., Feb. 28

Looking to save a little money in your gardening budget this year?  Then take advantage of our field-grown plant special where you can pre-buy select bare-root plants for up to 50% off, then grow them yourselves.  For more information on plant selection, look here.

We can recommend the brand-spanking-new Double Asiatic Lilies, like the double-pink 'Elodie,' for only $4.99.

Another perennial favorite (pun intended) is the shocking Phlox 'Peppermint Twist,' which you can purchase bare-root for only $5.99.

It's not too early to start thinking spring!

Vote for your favorite garden center!
KTVI Fox 2 News is having a voting contest for St. Louisans' favorite garden center -- you can vote here. Voting ends March 19, and the winner probably only receives bragging rights, but as modest as we like to think we are, we do love to brag...so don't forget to vote!

The St. Louis Hydrangea Society will meet Tues., March 16, 6:30 p.m. at
Sugar Creek for a presentation on hot new hydrangea varieties available in 2010, and maybe some that are in the pipeline for next year...

Anyone with a passion for hydrangeas is welcome to come.  Membership is $10, which includes the ticket price for this summer's hydrangea tour.

Check the hydrangea website for more information, or call Kim Reiss, president, at 314-954-7501.

A much sought-after flowering shrub this year will be the
dwarf butterfly bush 'Lo and Behold'

This is a breakthrough variety of buddleia with all the fragrance and butterfly appeal of traditional varieties in a small, easy to maintain package.

'Lo and Behold' stays under 3 feet tall without any pruning, and blooms continuously from mid summer to frost without deadheading. It is frost tolerant, non-invasive and very easy to grow.

It's also drought-tolerant and deer-resistant, and a great butterfly and hummingbird attraSugar Creek Gardens for exceptional and rare plantsctor.  Many gardeners choose to grow them in containers on the porch or deck so the flowers and wildlife can be enjoyed up-close.  Add it to your wish list for 2010...
