What's new?

ÞWe have pansies! Receive a free 6-pack with any purchase March 1-12.

ÞNew evening hours! Starting Wed., March 31, we will be open until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sounds like happy hour at Sugar Creek!

ÞWe're spring cleaning, so lots of stuff is 50% off.  Select pots, wrought iron, gift shop items, and more.  Look here for a sneak peek.

ÞWhen can you start planting perennials? Anytime the ground is workable. As long as it's not wet outside, you can plant. Annuals are planted about April 15 or later when the danger of frost has passed.

ÞPersy has flown the coop! Our resident owl Persimmon has been absent these past few weeks.  Maybe he's just on spring break. We'll let you know if/when he returns...

Mark your calendar: Our first talk of the season is Sat., March 7

"Beginning Perennial Gardening," one of our most popular talks of the year, kicks off our 2009 gardening season Saturday, March 7. We're offering 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. classes -- please call for reservations (314-965-3070).  We will take you through the steps needed to create a successful perennial garden. The fundamentals of soil, plant selection, light requirements, and color schemes will be discussed.  A great class for beginning gardeners, and a nice refresher for old hands.  Get out of the house and have some fun with fellow plant nerds -- we miss everyone!

Want to learn about the hottest plants for 2009?

'King Kong' Poppy

...Then you need to visit our website.  We have information and pictures on the newest plants that are going to be creating the most buzz this year.  For example -- 'King Kong' Poppy comes in at a whopping 40 inches tall.  Likes full sun and well-drained soil -- will colonize and astound even the most jaded gardeners if placed in an ideal location.  More perennial info and pics can be found here.

Another favorite of ours for 2009 is Hydrangea arborescens 'Incrediball.'  An improved version of 'Annabelle,' this new variety has basketball-sized blooms and thicker stems to prevent flopping. This hard-to-find cultivar is going to redefine the arborescens species of hydrangea -- you wait and see!  Look here for more info on our tree and shrub availability.

We are also offering a special re-blooming daylily package this season.  You'll receive five one-gallon containers of the best re-blooming hemerocallis on the market -- a $55 value, for only $45. For more information, look here.

It's that time again -- We Plan You Plant

It was such a hit last year that we're bringing it back again -- our We Plan You Plant program.  Call or stop in to pick up a questionnaire and schedule a free 45-minute consultation with one of our landscape designers. Bring in pictures of your yard or garden beds, measure the area, clip pictures of your favorite plants from magazines -- get as detailed as you want. We can help refresh your home's curb appeal, plan a new flower bed, help refurbish an existing bed, or problem-solve tough areas in your yard. 314-965-3070

The impossible has happened -- our gift shop is cuter than last year

I know, I know -- you think I'm exaggerating. But wait until you see the merchandise the girls have brought in for this spring, including a new supply of fairy gardening items; a bee-themed display of rugs, candles, and more; and the cutest-ever hand-stitched children's and women's shirts from our very own Wendy Conroy!  Look here for more pics.
