Listed are exceptional annuals that look terrific as single specimens or in mass plantings.
The most anticipated
Twice the Petal Power with MiniFamous Double Millionbells Be ready to be dazzled by the first Double Millionbells. Causing all the excitement is their vibrant colors with double petal power. They will fill your containers and beds with masses of blossoms, even in the heat and humidity. Low-growing plants are perfect to spill out of containers or for the front of the border. Radiant colors include deep blue, dark pink, and brilliant pink. Plants grow 4" tall and 2' wide.
‘Illumina’ Scoparia. Swarms of mini-yellow blossoms, the size of a firefly’s glow, light up the garden for months on end. So wonderful in containers too. The teeny-tiny foliage, and small flowers makes a strong contrast with big flowered plants like Petunias and Geraniums. In the heat of last year’s summer, ‘Illumina’ was never out of bloom or with one bad leaf. Sun.
‘Blue Eyes’ Nierembergia. What is it? Everyone wants to know, and once you see it you will also want to know. A veritable bushel of blooms appear all summer. Soft white petals with blue centers continue on and on and on. One of our most requested plants. Excellent for containers. Grows 12”. Sun.
‘Summer Wave Large Violet’ Wishbone Flower, Torenia. Large, deep violet flowers top distinctly serrated foliage that looks great even in the hottest of summers. Exceptional performer that can be used as a groundcover or to drape over containers. Part shade to sun. Winner of multiple awards.
'Intensia’ Phlox. Highly fragrant dense heads of blossoms makes these joys perfect for containers on the patio, or along walkways. ‘Neon Pink’ boasts hot pink petals that surround a dark rose eye. ‘Cabernet’ is a deep, rich fuchsia. They grow 8-12” and prefer part shade to sun.
‘Diamond 'Frost’ Euphorbia. Expect to see this plant everywhere, year round. Not just for summer, this plant will bloom all winter in a sunny window. This-just-about-perfect variety produces clouds of airy white blooms, non-stop. It makes a perfect companion to just about everything, from Geraniums and Petunias to Poinsettias at Christmas. Grows 10-14”, sun to part shade.
‘European Koralle’ Fuchsia. If any of you have grown ‘Gartenmeister’ Fuchsia and fell in love, be ready to switch to a new dreamboat. ‘European Koralle’ is a much improved version. Bright coral-orange dangling blossoms drip off exceptional purple tinted foliage. Excellent for shady containers. Unfazed by heat and humidity. Grows 16-18”.
‘Toucan Tango’ Brachyscome. Magnificent lavender-blue daisies with intense chartreuse eyes bloom continuously all summer. Grows 6-12” and prefers full sun.
‘Giant Snowflake’ Bacopa. Enormous brilliant white flowers add a fine dusting of glimmer to hanging baskets and containers. Trailing with its excellent beauty and texture ‘Giant Snowflake’ fills in around other plants, making them look fuller and more vigorous. Sun to part shade.
‘Karalee Pink’ Gaura. Spurred, bright pink flowers hover like tiny butterflies above the dark green to burgundy foliage. A heat lover that starts very compact but gains height as the summer progresses. Grows 10-14” and blooms all summer. A perennial that will come back year after year.

Tips for container gardening ¨ Fill the pot with moistened, good quality potting soil 5” below the pot rim with 4” deep pots. ¨ Arrange plants and fill in remaining spaces with additional potting soil. Leave at least 1” of space below rim. ¨ Use potting soil with a slow release fertilizer already added or incorporate fertilizer, such as Osmocote to sustain fertilization. For containers bursting with flowers, liquid fertilizer such as Miracle-Gro should also be used. Here at Sugar Creek we use Miracle-Gro Bloom Booster at half strength throughout the summer. ¨ Plants need sufficient moisture for optimum growth, but hate soggy soil as it will rot their roots. Check the soil daily, only watering when dry. During the heat of the summer this could be twice a day. To reduce your watering chores, incorporate Soil Moist, a soil conditioner that holds water, to your container before planting.
Save time and money with Miracle-Gro Potting Soils ¨ Miracle-Gro with Fertilizer. Enriched with Miracle-Gro Plant Food which feeds for three months. ¨ Miracle-Gro Moisture Control with Fertilizer. Contains Miracle-Gro Plant Food and Moisture Control Crystals. When water is added the crystals absorb the water, then act as a water reservoir, releasing water as the soil dries out.
